Energy Consumption & Population

Energy Consumption & Population

Three day workshop with Rachel Chambers and Maisie Benson, run by Will Stahl-Timmins.

A team of students from Exeter University needed an infographic to support their ‘Grand Challenges’ science project. The energy sources and consumption of a range of countries are compared with their population and human development index (HDI) score.

Representing an Earth’s worth of resources, the ball of string floats above the countries it feeds. Coloured threads indicate four different energy sources; green, hydro, nuclear and fossil fuels. Circle area is proportional to population. Circle colour gives a rough guide to HDI score.
